Meteor Scattering Station started!!

Posted on July 6, 2020April 11, 2021

On this COVID time I prepared a fixed radio station to do some Meteor Scattering.

This receiver is using a radar signal from french GRAVES system, running on 143.050 MHz provides a constant signal to register any disturbance on the ionosphere due the meteor impact.

To register these signals I use the Spectrum radio analysis software and also Colorgramme reporting software.

Capturing hardware is based on a SDR dongle from Nooelec with four elements Yaggi antenna oriented 30º azimuth and 45º altitud.

Finally last weekend was installed on a fixed location and it start catching meteors.

Results are reported to Radio Meteor Observing Bulleting page.

Here you could see the best captures during the firsts days running

And also you could listen how it sounds the perturbation when a meteor entering into the atmosphere….

Now, my next challenge is try to find some correlation between radio and visual contacts…. will see but I am afraid this will not happens….
