After waiting some time to get an antenna (one year maybe?), I was finally able to buy this kit earlier this year.
I’ve been testing Starlink for a few weeks now.
Installation has been very easy and I am still exploring options to not use the wifi router that comes with it and connect the dish directly to my PfSense main routers.
And the impresion is really good, only after a few minutes after the installation, the system is up and running and offering more than respectable speeds.
Currently offers download speeds between 100Mb/300Mb and 50Mb/100Mb to upload.
A solution to implement some time in the future on the remote observatory, specially when this performance will improve a bit more after to deploy from the current 1500 satellites to 12000.
Anyway it will be more complicated to take pictures of the sky with no satellites on the frame……
Some big concerns about the service:
- monthly price (108€), compared with a cheap 4G connetion.
- high power consume of 100w/150w
- only provides cgnat (not a problem with Zerotier or similar)
